☁ Dressmaking Class at the Community Centre { Course Review }

It never crossed my mind, that I would took a sewing/dressmaking class.

My background is in architecture, and when I quit my job, I was thinking to do a work that can be done from home. I love design, I once entered a shoe design competition in Jakarta and got in as a semifinalist. But for shoes, it is a complex industry, and not easy looking for the resources. I was thinking to start a small clothing business, and to do that I need to know the basic, I wanted to know how to make a dress, how much fabric I needed, how much time, etc. That's why out of the curiosity, I signed up for a sewing class.

I searched for courses in Singapore, and sewing course is quite expensive. Thankfully, I came across a Dressmaking Class at one of Singapore's Community Centre. It is only 75 S$ per term (8 classes). I took kick boxing and guitar class at the CC previously, and was so far not disappointed :)

I enrolled for 4 times dressmaking classes (about 8 months time), and stopped when my pregnancy was in the 6th months. I learned basic drafting, cutting and sewing. I also had so much fun with the friendly ladies there. My teacher Josephine is a very nice lady, very patient and gave good explanations.

The result was ... I've done some pregnancy dresses, matching shirts for my hubby, also swaddles for my baby! This was better than my expectation ^^.

Diy pregnancy batik dress & matching pair shirt
Diy dress (up to 4 mths pregnancy) & pregnancy ikat jacket
Baby swaddles

If you are in Singapore and you are interested in dressmaking course, you can enroll at CC near your place. For more information you can visit their website and do online sign-up here.

My mommy-in-law said, skills that surely useful for a mother are cooking & sewing.
